Love potions may refer to common
aphrodisiacs or to food products said to enhance the sexual
appetite of both males and females. They can also take the
form of traditional herbal recipes that carry varied
physical effects, for example, stimulating the production of
male hormones. However, the basic goal of love potions is to
influence an individual. They make the desired individual
more receptive and more susceptible to the physical charms
of the target.
In practice, objects and symbols of personal significance
are often incorporated into love potions. The more popular
accompanying charms may include the hair, nails, bodily
fluid samples and some personal properties that belong to
the subject. These special preparations may be acquired from
experienced elders in the community. Some concoctions even
ensure fidelity of wives to their husbands. These recipes
normally incorporate tropical plant and animal essences.
During the creation of love potions, the magical
practitioner may conduct a session with chants, pictures, or
visual representations of the target person to enhance its
power.
Other love potions can be more complex. At one point, they
may be aimed towards ensuring the love and loyalty of a
spouse while on a more sinister tone, they may be made to
destroy a happy marriage, or even to hurt incessantly a
cheating partner. Love potions are traced back in the
ancient times where there have been recorded creation and
use of such spells. During the time of Cleopatra, love
potions created by high priestesses were believed to give
women great power over men. The Indian classic 'Kama Sutra'
likewise refers to love potions that improve performance in
the bedroom. |
